RESOURCES: Living SimplyAt Pathway, one of our core values is living simply. We value uncluttered lives, which free us to love boldly, give generously, and serve joyfully. Living simply in a world of excess is not easy. Everywhere we turn we are bombarded with messages that tell us that our self worth hinges on having the latest gadget, the best car and the biggest house. This type of misinformation has caused us to be unsettled and discontent with who we are and what we do...so much so that we've filled every last second of our day with busyness that keeps us in hot pursuit of making sure that we're keeping up with the Jones'. What if there was another way to live? What if we began to subtract from our lives instead of adding? What if we allowed God's Word to lead our lives and every decision we make so that our schedules, our stuff and our checkbooks reflected a desire to live simply so that we can love boldly, give generously, and serve joyfully? If you have the desire live more simply in obedience to God, we invite you to use the resources and next steps listed below for living simply. RELATED BOOKS

RELATED SCRIPTURE"You shall not covet your neighbor's house ; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor." - Exodus 20:17 (NAS) "Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,' so that we confidently say, 'THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?'" - Hebrews 13:5-6 "But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." - 1 Timothy 6:6-10 (NAS) |
