1998 - New beginnings in West York
Pathway Community Church was planted in 1998 as a Brethren In Christ denomination by founding pastor, John Cressman. John followed God's leading from Canada to fill a need in the community of York. The first church service occurred on November 1, 1998 at the Days Inn in West York with 166 in attendance. That service and those to follow focused on building relationships and incorporating people into community and ministry at the church. The church leaders worked to turn a group of strangers into a church family with a common purpose and vision. Small groups were started in seven different homes and Pathway began a tradition of having regular sharing projects to express God's love to those outside the church. The first sharing projects included sending refugee kits to Kosovo and putting together hygiene kits for the homeless in York.
2000 - A move to York City
Two years after its first service, Pathway moved to 124 West Princess Street, a building located in a residential neighborhood in York, and began to get involved in the community through several outreach events.2002 - Pathway finds a home
Pathway found a new home on Taxville Road in 2002, moving into a more traditional church building that would better accomodate the needs of the church. In April of that year, Danny and Lorrie Tanner also joined the congregation to bring leadership to the worship team and children's ministries.2007 - New leadership
In 2007, founding pastor, John Cressman, felt a call to return to Canada to serve the Brethren in Christ church near his birthplace. After serving as interim pastor, Pastor Adin Herndon, began full-time ministry at Pathway. He and his wife, Karen, have over 30 years of ministry experience and have a passion for serving the Lord through evangelism, worship, and discipleship. Most recently, in January 2009, Pastor Jeremy Blount also joined the Pathway family as a youth and young adult pastor. We are thankful for God's provision and look forward to walk God will do through Jeremy as he ministers to the youth and youth staff at Pathway.
Today and tomorrow
Today, we have grown to two services but our mission and purpose has remained the same. Pathway Community Church exists to bring glory to God and to help people find and follow God's Pathway for their lives. We are committed to full reliance on Christ as we seek to:CONNECT with God and others, GO DEEP in our relationship with God through Christ, and to let God's love FLOW through us as He impacts the world for HIS GLORY.
